Brief novel extract

Hello everyone! How are you?

I’ve decided to post a brief extract from the novel I’m trying to write for NaNoWriMo. I’m already on c. 17,700 words, which means I’m awfully delayed (I should have written c.30,000 by now) but I still haven’t lost hope, especially since today I wrote more than 5,000!

It’s very short, and it’s a draft, as it hasn’t been edited at all, so expects mistakes of any kind. I know I should try to edit it as I’m publishing it here, but in true NaNo style, I refuse to edit anything in November!

So hey, if you happen to read this, and would like to give me your opinion, please, comment below! Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I hope you enjoy it!

Emily glanced at the clock. It was almost time. It was unnerving how slow time was passing. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. The noise seemed to get louder and louder, and she could feel a cold sweat on her brow. She wiped it away with the back of her hand, and started massaging her temples again. If only the noise would stop. It was like listening to a hundred different radios, but none of them entirely tuned in. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Emily was feeling so claustrophobic she needed to get out. Before she realised it, she had started towards the door. Somewhere deep down she knew she should stop walking, that she was going to die as soon as she put a foot outside. Probably they will strike me down with a lighting, she thought, but she could still not stop herself. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. She looked at the clock again, but she could barely see the time now. The heat in her belly warmed up. She just needed some fresh air. Emily had been stuck in that dammed tattoo parlour for more than two weeks now, and she just needed to breath some fresh air. She was almost at the door now. She could already feel the breeze. A couple of steps more and she would be out. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. If only the noise would stop. One more step, that was all it would take. She was burning now, and felt herself feverish. She was just by the door when she jolted when a cold hand touching her arm and stopping her in her tracks. As if just awake from a dream, Emily blinked confused and looked at the hand. She turned slightly and saw Nate looking serious and hard at her. He was holding her firm, and her arm was starting to feel numb, and only then she realised she had been pulling. The cold from Nate’s hand was fast spreading through her arm and shoulder, soon would be felt all over her body. Still confused, she turned in the direction her body had been pulling her and gave a small cry when she realised she was just inches away from the door. As if some sort of cord had suddenly broken, she felt a snap and was suddenly pulled backwards towards Nate, who had been still pulling her to him. She landed in his arms when he caught her graciously as she fell back. He held her tight.
