Raising money for your heart

Hello everyone!

I know what you might be thinking: a blog entry in the middle of the week? I know, right? Madness!!

You see… I was at home, and it suddenly hit me: next week I will be running 10k for the British Heart Foundation and I haven’t reached my humble fundraising goal yet! (look how humble it is here)

The British Heart Foundation is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives though pioneering research, patient care and vital information. We rely on your donations of time and money to continue our life-saving work. Because together we can beat heart disease.

Let me explain a bit about this run. It will happen in Regent’s Park, on the 9th of March (feel free to come to support me, by the way, I’m going to need it). The event starts at 10am, so I will have to wake up very early if I want to make it in time, and resemble something of a human… That means, I probably won’t be able to go out on Friday!

Also, it’s 10k. As usual, due to me being a bit disorganized (ha!) and always up to some different project or hobby, I haven’t trained all that I should have, so once again, this is probably going to be a mighty feat for me. We’re going to have timing chips, which means there’s a highly chance of embarrassing myself by running 10k in 3 hours or something like that…

All in all, I think it will be fine, really. I am motivated to do this, and I have a positive attitude and feeling it’s going to be great!

You might want to know why I joined this run… I’ve already ran dressed as Santa to raise money for Lupus… And I go running on a regular basis with the running club around Clapham (dressed as a super hero, and as a zombie, and many different outfits, but these just for fun!)

Thanks Mario for sending me this photo, taken by his wife!

In this case, I wanted to run for BHF because if you think about it, anyone can suffer from heart conditions at any stage in their lives. It isn’t just about diet or levels of fitness, but also genetics, and even age… Keeping healthy obviously improve the chances of a healthy heart, but the stressful lives we live nowadays definitely don’t help! I certainly know some people who have had to undergo surgery and bypass and other procedures of which I don’t really understand much, to be honest. So I’m doing this for all of them, and for me, but I’m running also for you!!

However, the work BHF are doing is extremely important to not only do research on the matter, but also to raise awareness on the factors that put us at risk and to help educate the population of what being healthy is and how to take care of the most important organ in our body.

For this reason, let me use the entry today to ask you for a little favour… I’m only trying to raise £50 for this event. I think it’s doable, and I didn’t want to put all my friends and family in an difficult situation by asking for too much. I would be overjoyed if we could raise more money than that, of course!

All I’m asking for is for you to donate even a couple of quids to help me reach (and even exceed) this goal. Donate some money for the cause, pass it on to your friends, retweet, post on Facebook… Anything you can do to help will be much appreciated!

Will you help me achieve this?

You just need to go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MartaNava and donate whichever amount you want. Or as I said, please ask your friends to help me!

Thank you so much in advance!!
