Y.h. Clothing

I am not sure how this post is going to turn out, as it’s the first time I try to do something like this. For a while now, I’ve been thinking about showing other people’s work, share it with all of you, but every time I’ve started writing the actual post, I’ve felt a bit silly about it. Everyone around me inspires me and I am lucky enough to be surrounded by exceptional artists. Some of them I know in person, others are in my circle of friends and friends-of-friends – that doesn’t mean their work doesn’t inspire me too! From photography to crafts, from music to illustration, from writing to cooking, I would like to start sharing with you the hard work that people around me are doing towards what they love the most, and how some of them are actually quite successful at it. Before I go ahead and introduce the first, I would like to add that I’m doing this for the only reason of showcasing others’ work. I am not getting …

Crushed

Today, I come to you with a question. There is a proper post as well, of course, but it’s mainly a question. Have you ever had a crush? If you’re human and alive, my guess is you have – if you’ve never had a crush, please tell me, I’ll be interested in hearing your story! A crush is defined as the object of infatuation (or the infatuation itself). The term normally carries some transience to it. I find the word chosen to describe both the feeling and the person that causes that feeling quite interesting. It could have been any other word, but no, we use the term crush, which means to break, to subdue, to overwhelm… And how overwhelming a crush is, isn’t it? We’ve all had a celebrity crush at one point or another. I’m guessing men will feel slightly infatuated by Megan Fox, or Scarlett Johansson, or maybe some other women like Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence. Women will probably like the looks of Henry Cavill, or Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling or …

Workshops and lack of space

Last week I started writing a post to clarify some of the things I mentioned in my last post, especially around giving up your dreams. However, everything I wrote sounded hollow. Let me simply say this: I’m not advocating giving up on your dreams, I’m just saying we need to be realistic. If your dream is to be an astronaut, but you spend your days on the sofa, watching documentaries about space… Well, that isn’t going to happen, is it? Get out there, find how you need to train, etc. And if it turns out that you can’t become an astronaut because you’re too short, or some other thing about yourself that you can’t change, then move on. If you want to make your dream come true, you’ll need to work hard for it, or let it go, that’s all I’m saying. Last week I went out. Twice. I drank a lot, unfortunately. What this has meant is that I’ve spent my weekend being lazy, tired and completely drained of energy and emotionally. I was …

Life without a GPS

Tonight, I was having a conversation with my friend Sam about a book he recommended on creativity (The War Of Art, Steven Pressfield). I said that while the book was overall OK, it didn’t tell me anything new. Also, that I wasn’t too happy about the theological turn it took at some point, but that’s another story. The thing is, the conversation developed into a deeper one about life and our paths and all that, so I told him I needed to put that conversation on hold (yup, I’m that kind of nerd) so I could write this down. Sam, feel free to reply to all this either on Whatsapp, or even in your own blog, if you want! I believe we, humans, are evolving beings. We are definitely not static, and by interaction with others we change. Others, in the sense of other human beings, and the world, but also ourselves. Our own cells die and regenerate, we change skin cells everyday, our hair grows and our tastes change over time. That’s just part …
