Work in progress – a deadline

Hello everyone! First of all, I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to visit the blog, ever and this week. In just a few days, we’ve had over 150 visits! While I’ve had similar traffic even in one single day (very rare), the truth is my blog isn’t that widespread, and visits in such high numbers are not that common! So, thank you, I hope you keep coming back! Thanks! This week I also did something I’m quite proud of. I’m usually shy, but I somehow mustered all the courage I could find, and I asked a guy out for a drink. Out of the blue. Well, not really. I met him and I found him attractive and friendly. He seemed like a cool guy, so after a bit of convincing from one of my best friends, I emailed him (only means of contact available). Go me! Of course, he said no (had a girlfriend, it seems), but that’s a different story. The key message here is: I did something I’m not …

Let’s rock and roll!

Last week I was invited by Halloween Jack to be a photographer for their gig on Thursday at The Underbelly of Hoxton in London. This is something I had never done before. The closest would be by taking my smartphone or point-and-shoot camera and snapping some drunken pictures of our shenanigans in a pub. On this occasion, my friend had asked me if I would be interested in advance, so I had time to prepare and worry about the outcome. Taking photographs at concerts or bars is quite tricky. First of all, there isn’t a proper source of light. It seems that light levels are relatively constant (er… dark all the time?) but since the light moves from one lamp to another, and changes colours, it’s difficult to get great results. I read a lot about the subject because, even if I do understand my camera, and how photography works and how to play around with the settings, the unknown is something that makes me nervous, what can I say? On the night, I went …

A little bit about me

Wow, thanks for all the visits and comments (most done on a face to face basis) about the sneak preview of the gig’s photos! I’m really glad you guys liked them, and I hope you will like the rest. I’m not sharing any more for now, because I’m talking to the band so we can decide who will share which ones first, before they get out for everyone to see. Lots of collaboration here! However, I want to thank you again for your feedback and support, you guys are the best! Today, I would like to write about something else, nothing to do with photography or my usual personal challenges. Since I’ve been around music stuff lately, and I’m always listening to my own playlists on a daily basis (you can’t imagine the struggle when my phone was malfunctioning and I couldn’t listen to music during my commute!), I’ve decided to share my latest favourite songs with you. So, here’s a usual “what I’m listening to” list. Don’t get used to it! Unless you really …

A few photos for you!

Hello everyone! I’m trying to post regularly again, as I’m aware I’ve been leaving the blog quite abandoned. This weekend I’ve spent it mostly cleaning. I was tidying my room on Saturday, but for some reason, I don’t know what I’ve done, it’s again a mess. Ah well… Today I went to my friend’s for lunch and we had raclette. I love it so much! It was nice to catch up, and to meet her friend, and gossip for a bit. I even got to practise my French listening skills! Guess what I'm about to eat… 🙂 A post shared by Marta Nava (@marz_shoes) on May 11, 2014 at 5:08am PDT After eating a lot, we even had dessert. My friend had cooked an apple tart, and her friend had brought cakes from Paul’s (as I don’t have such a sweet tooth, I brought the cold meat – but I did eat some tart!) … and dessert!
