A Pinterest experiment – make up brushes

You have probably heard me talk about Pinterest quite a bit. A lot of my inspiration comes from there. It’s a great place to browse ideas for DIY, outfits, recipes, or even knitting and similar. Many of the projects there require skills that I would normally not possess, but that doesn’t deter me from trying. I‘ve tried a few tips I’ve found on Pinterest. For example, I practised with my mum on how to make a candle out of a clementine once, I made a Harry Potter wand for a friend, I got inspiration to make a dream catcher (you can see mine here), I made candles in a cup from this example, and even attempted a bauble Christmas tree at a friend’s flat once. It didn’t look like the one on that link, I’m afraid. I probably learnt how to crochet and knit thanks to Pinterest too. If you know anything about it, then you’ll also know the Pinterest fails. Those are basically when people see amazing stuff on Pinterest, attempt to replicate it, …

Buttercream Pumpkin Cake

Are you over Halloween yet? Do you have time for just one more pumpkin recipe? It was Halloween last week, and people dressed up, carved pumpkins and had crazy amounts of alcohol (adults) and sweets (kids, but probably adults too!) In the end, I didn’t dress up. My plans for the evening fell through and I didn’t feel like making a huge effort to just go back home and take my make up off. Funnily enough, I ended up staying in a pub, but that’s a whole different story. Every year we have a carving competition at work. We ask people to let us know if they want to carve a pumpkin, and then we order them, so they can carve their decorations whenever they want and have them ready for us to judge (us, as in the social committee, of which I am part). This year Halloween fell on a Friday, and we were even luckier because it was a Friday drinks one. Basically, every other week we have drinks in one of the …

Nigella’s jumble berry crumble

It’s funny… I don’t like eating sweet stuff. Chocolate, cakes, biscuits… Not really my thing. However, I love baking. I guess that’s good news for my friends and colleagues, as that means I pretty much bake for them. Every now and again, I go into the kitchen and start experimenting, not always successfully! That apple cake was supposed to look much prettier, like the one featured here (found on Pinterest). However, I didn’t think things through properly… Ah, one day I’ll manage to bake croissants… in the meantime, I’ll have to keep buying them! At weekends, one of my favourite hobbies is to watch Nigella’s TV program on Food Network. I have no clue what it’s called, I just know that I love it! They normally show a few episodes at a time, one after another, and I have to say she’s one of my favourites. She makes cooking super easy and not over the top. Whenever she can use ready ingredients, she will. She always says that she’s quite lazy, so she wants to …

Hello, old friend…

I’m back. I can’t even remember when was the last time I posted anything here, although a quick look at the posts tells me it was almost a month ago. Given the fact that I was writing around three times a week, I feel like I owe you all an explanation… Possibly I really don’t, but let’s be transparent and all that. Now it all seems far away, I’m OK telling you all about it. If I remember correctly, that last post was scheduled. On that same day, after being a couple of days off sick, I found out my role was being made redundant. If it has never happened to you, trust me, it’s not a nice feeling. I’m not going to discuss all the details here, but any redundancy has a consultation period which, in my case, lasted for about two weeks or so. That meant I was off work during that period, not really knowing what was going to happen. I told my brother straight away, since we share a flat, but …
