I have the feeling that August was a really busy month, even if when I try to think hard about what I’ve been doing, I can’t really come up with anything… Is that age?
During August, as you know, I decided I wanted every week to be a short one, so I took every Monday off, and sometimes even the Tuesday! It was good, it felt great… but it also meant that I have had troubles figuring out which day of the week it was during the whole month!
I sold some books, and gave away a bunch. I finished my Whole30 and did my reintroduction. I’ve helped Ronald McDonald House a few times as well. If you remember, I’ve also gone to the theatre a few times, as well as a steam train day trip (I know, I still have to share the photos). I have also been to the hospital a bunch of times, for check-ups. In the last month I’ve had ultrasound scanners, x-rays and MRI scanners done, for different issues. I’m considering getting a membership! Either that, or I’m slowly getting super powers!
Speaking of memberships, I’ve joined the gym. Or rather, I’ve joined the swimming pool. But you already knew that.
During August, I’ve also seen the fruits of my hard work showcased to the public, which was a rush, even if it wasn’t anything major!

Only this weekend, I’ve been out and about, going to bed late, waking up way too early, and pretty much busy. I was glad I could sleep in a bit this morning, but I still need to catch up on some sleep (hopefully tonight).
The one thing I’m really excited about at the moment is the weather. Sure, summer is gone and that makes me a bit sad, but autumn is a great season anyway, despite the general obsession with pumpkin flavours, something I’m neither here nor there about (also, I can’t wait for winter to come, so I can wear my big blanket scarf again… I hope it will snow!). I’ve started to get the itch to make stuff with my hands. For the moment, I’m meeting Oummou when she’s back from travelling, and we’re going to bake a chocolate & caramel ombre cake. I know I’ve done it already twice, but it’s such a great cake that I can’t wait to bake it again. Also, we’re meeting at her place, which means a big kitchen and, since it’ll be the two of us, that also means there will be enough hands to bake and photograph. Also, her kitchen has nice light coming in, which also works well for pictures, as you can see in the picture below.

The other thing that I’m feeling the need for right now is sewing and knitting. I still have some projects half-done, which is stressing me a bit, but I remember how relaxing and nice I used to find them. I figure, I don’t need to do everything at once, but surely I can come up with a nice schedule to keep up with all my hobbies and all the stuff I want to do.
So, I wanted to share with you some of the things I’m going to be focusing on in September, which might mean you will read more about this sort of stuff in future posts.
This weekend I’m volunteering at the house again. Every time I do it, I don’t get any sleep, but I actually enjoy it because I get up super early in the mornings, which allows me to work out first thing in the day, leaving me full of energy and ready to tackle anything.
I have the feeling I’m not the most organised person at work (or at home, for that matter), and that is something that I want to try to fix. My boss has suggested mind mapping instead of making lists. I sort of like the idea, but I don’t know if I would be able to keep it up.
Usually, I see all those people on blogs and Instagram being all organised and tidy all the time. I know that’s not the reality and a lot goes behind the scenes (the whole don’t compare your behind the scenes life with other people’s highlight reel thing), but it does make me wonder whether everyone else has already all their s**t together and I’m the only one here trying to keep my head above the water. Can you let me know either way? Just so that I can either try harder, or just give up altogether and embrace the chaos.
Ideally, I would love to get up early (sunlight would help greatly here, I hate waking up in the dark), make a plan for the day, do some yoga, have breakfast and then start the day properly. Ideally, I would be super organised and efficient at work (I don’t see that happening any time soon, though). After work, I would be able to workout (whichever was the plan that day, or rest on a rest day), have dinner, work on the blog a bit, then go to bed. I know if I want to be well rested in the morning, I can’t shave off hours of sleep to cram more activities on my day, so that’s why I need a schedule, so that some days I can exercise, other days I can knit, or bake, and why not, even have time to go out!
This month I’m also working on a client seminar at work, as well as preparing for a big conference later on in Dublin. I’m only helping out on the seminar, but I’m quite busy with the conference, being responsible for a big chunk of it. This means I will be visiting Dublin later in the month, something I’m really excited about as I’ve never been. It also means I’m a bit stressed at work these days. I still manage to keep up the good energy and vibes, but some important people will be attending, and I want it to go well (of course!), and at the moment things aren’t going as smoothly as they should…
Anyway, no point in worrying over stuff out of my control, right?
To end today’s post, I wanted to ask you something… Do you prefer when there’s a proper blog schedule or when there isn’t? By this I mean, something like knowing every Monday is a photography post, and there’s a recipe on Wednesdays, and once a month there’s a catch up and what’s coming up sort of post. Do you prefer that, or do you prefer not knowing what you’re going to read about? I would be very interested in hearing what you think!
So that’s my September focus, the big objectives. What are you focusing on at the moment?
