Argentina, part III

I left my story about my trips in Argentina a bit halfway… Sorry about that! I was too busy doing things than blogging about them! In any case, here I am again. The trek around Estancia Cristina was incredible. I’ve never walked as much as these past weeks, but I have definitely discovered a love for walking around in the wild. With scenery like this, you’ve got to love the outdoors: Upsala Glacier As you can imagine, I don’t get to see this in London! We walked for many hours, and had lunch at a viewpoint on top of a hill. We were really tired and our clothes were full of burr seeds! It was quite painful to try to get them off! That was my last day in El Calafate, and it was worth it every second of it. The next day, I didn’t want to leave, even though I was finally going to see my friend for a few days. Back in Buenos Aires, I had a great time as well with my …

Argentina, part I

I am in Ushuaia, Argentina. I am loving it here! I arrived on Monday, after 2 hours delay… The plane’s nose wheel got stuck in a 90 degrees position, so we couldn’t take off. They gave us another plane and we left. Now, not sure if you’ve ever travelled to Ushuaia, but basically, the runway is like a mini version of a real one. It’s on a small strip of land, and it pretty much starts and ends in water. I got in safe though (phew!) Yesterday, or Monday, I had a boat trip booked on the Beagle Channel. It was nice and fun. I got on well with the captain and the crew, and they even shared their mate with me! I got an Argentine flag as a souvenir at the end of it: I have now to take a picture of it, somewhere in the world, and send it to them. Sounds fun! Today, I had a trekking and canoeing booked. It was a full day trip and it was so much fun! …

down the memory lane

Today it was quite good at work. The team are finally coming to me to ask me questions, and I felt a bit more like I belonged in there. This has been a hectic week. I have been doing so many things, been so busy… Luckily it’s over now and I’m officially on holidays!! It’s funny how time passes by… I was thinking earlier, I had wanted to go to Argentina last Christmas, and couldn’t afford it. Then, I booked the flights in March. I was in my previous flat, and my card was blocked because my bank thought it had been stolen! I had to spend 40 minutes trying to get it to work again. I changed my bank, and my flat. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great they picked the strange online shopping, but I still think they should have tried contacting me or something before blocking my card and forcing me to answer a lot of questions on the phone, and keep me on hold for nearly 15 minutes! I …

countdown

Wow, this is an interesting feeling… I’m flying to Argentina in a couple of days, and man, I’m nervous. I have this butterflies in my stomach, especially today, as I’m starting to pack my suitcase (just to have a view on what I need and how much it weights). I have this trip planned since March, but I’ve been waiting all my life to go to this country. I remember reading Mafalda when I was a kid and thinking how much I wanted to go to this strange place where they spoke a weird Spanish. As I grew up, I discovered Maytena, and kept on learning about the way they thought (from the point of view of this woman, of course). I’ve always watched any Argentine film that fell on my hands and looked at the streets of Buenos Aires showing on the screen with avid eyes. I love tango music. I don’t normally eat sweets, but oh, I love dulce de leche and the alfajor. With time, one Argentine girl became one of my …
