Hello, old friend…

I’m back. I can’t even remember when was the last time I posted anything here, although a quick look at the posts tells me it was almost a month ago. Given the fact that I was writing around three times a week, I feel like I owe you all an explanation… Possibly I really don’t, but let’s be transparent and all that. Now it all seems far away, I’m OK telling you all about it. If I remember correctly, that last post was scheduled. On that same day, after being a couple of days off sick, I found out my role was being made redundant. If it has never happened to you, trust me, it’s not a nice feeling. I’m not going to discuss all the details here, but any redundancy has a consultation period which, in my case, lasted for about two weeks or so. That meant I was off work during that period, not really knowing what was going to happen. I told my brother straight away, since we share a flat, but …

Charities on ice

Once again, it seems as if the WordPress gods have spoken and all the planets and stars have aligned for me to write about a specific topic. For a while now, I’ve been thinking about writing about charities and what I do to help, but I haven’t done a proper post about it because anything I could say would simply sound as bragging and seeking attention. Sure, I’ve mentioned what I do in different posts, but normally not as the main focus. Yesterday, I was just sent this link to a Buzzfeed article about the ice bucket challenge by a colleague. I found the videos very funny, but mostly thought that they represent us, humans and our relation to YouTube and the Internet perfectly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always up for a good laugh, but sometimes it’s a bit sad when you see that the crazy stuff, the falls, the easy laugh, are the ones being shared the most. Whenever there’s a truly inspirational video or article being shared, when they attempt to create …

November is for Mos

I can’t believe it’s already October! Where has the year gone? It feels like only yesterday when I was celebrating my birthday, or even enjoying the summer… And now it’s just talks of winter clothes, pumpkin everything and the coming Christmas (or Holiday season, if that’s your thing). With November just around the corner, there are more projects on my horizon. Today, I want to write about a charity I will be supporting in November. As you might know, Movember is a charity that works towards raising awareness for men’s health. I’m sure you all have a relative in your families (maybe even yourself!) who never wants to go to the doctor. For some reason, this is usually the men! I don’t know why this is, maybe it’s a fear of showing a weakness, maybe it’s just trying to show that “father knows best” but truth is many men don’t have regular health checks, some as simple as a blood test. Some stuff is harmless or simply annoying, like a mild cold; but there are …

Looking forward

Today, I’m back to writing about challenging myself. It’s a recurrent topic for me, but one that I enjoy greatly. I am not going to talk about past challenges I’ve done, if you’ve read the blog for a while, you’ll be already bored with them! If you haven’t, have a look around and explore (I’ve been tagging them as challenge, so they shouldn’t be too difficult to find, hopefully!) So, what’s on the horizon for me? I like challenging myself both physically and psychologically, because, well, I guess that’s what gives me the kick to go on. I’m not crazy about challenges, or one of those daredevils that would do anything without thinking… No, I like to keep everything a bit more manageable. Hey, not having soft drinks for a week can also be a challenge! I have a few going on at the moment, so here they are, as well as why I’m doing them: Stop biting my cuticles. I’ve been sort of trying this for years. Truth is, it’s a bad habit that …
