Stacked Christmas presents

Wrapping up Christmas

As Christmas Day is gone and Boxing Day is slowly ending as well, I can’t help but feel a bit smug. That’s the true spirit of the season, right? I’m only joking… about the spirit of Christmas, not the smugness! You see, I believe Christmas is probably my favourite time of the year. Scrap that, let’s say holiday of the year, because I really like summer. Usually I am in full Christmas mode from September, and I just can’t help it. This year I wasn’t feeling the Christmas spirit that much, and I haven’t gone to Oxford Street or Winter Wonderland, despite being off work since last Thursday. Even the carols on my Spotify Christmas list have been somewhat absent. I don’t normally like shopping either, but during this period I make an exception, because I like getting people presents. Last Friday I met my friend Sean and we went Christmas shopping to Westfield in Shepherd’s Bush. First thought I had was that it was busy, even though it was actually emptier than I had …

Playing with ink!

Hello everyone! I guess this post can be included in the Handmade Life category (yay!!), and it’s a good thing, since it’s been a long time since I last posted about that sort of topic… so, let me place the pretty title below, and let’s begin! On Monday, I went to a screen printing workshop at The Book Club. I had never done screen printing before, but it’s something I’ve wanted to try for a while now. To play with inks and fabric, and create something unique? Totally my thing! At first, I was going with a friend, but I finally went there on my own, which is something I tend to do quite often lately, just try stuff by myself and, you know, jump in there and see what happens. I arrived early, and it was quite intimidating. I had never been in that place before, and there were people sitting around in groups, drinking and chatting, and then me. What do you do when you’re on your own, in a bar you have …

Project – Vintage doily lampshade

I don’t remember exactly when it was that I started crocheting… I think it was in February 2012… Here’s one of the first things I ever crocheted: Yes, that’s it, a single chain of yarn. I had become curious about it and decided to try it out. I bought a hook and some light yarn (to be able to see what I was doing) and got on Youtube and started searching for tutorials. Possibly in the same day, I did this: Just a straight, simple rectangle of yarn. I added it a button and did something to cover a jar. Simple. Soon enough, I was experimenting a bit more… Since then, I’ve been crocheting different things, from a Yoda hat I took on a ski trip, to a Cthulu and a Sackboy. You can see them here. I’m also trying to make a crocheted Afghan blanket, but that one is a long term project. Funnily enough, most of the people who know me personally, but not that well enough, find it difficult to believe that …

Making a dream catcher

I recently made a dream catcher for a friend’s son. Initially, I said I would make it for Christmas, but I’m a professional procrastinator, so in the end she had to remind me and I finally made it for this birthday. He’s a boy, and I needed to try to find some design that wouldn’t be way too delicate or girly, especially since I make them with crochet… In the end, I opted for bold bright colours, blue and red, and different charms hanging from it that would be more in line with a boy’s preferences. To be honest, I really love this dream catcher myself! One of my favourite charms in this dream catcher is the dice. It looks so cool! The small bee in the middle of the net looks really nice as well. It took me ages to wrap all the ring with the red yarn and I ended up with blisters on my fingers, but the result is a tight and neat outer ring. Every dreamcatcher I’ve done so far has …
