Drop it like a squat!

The week is almost over, at least for me, since I’m off on Friday, and as usual, I’m busy (I book the day off because I needed it, and I’m actually considering working for a few hours, type of busy). The week started with rushing to catch the happy train. I almost missed it, but managed to reach my carriage just as the doors were opening (to be fair, I could have always jumped in a different carriage anyway). As it’s becoming customary, I was busy at work. Yesterday was chaotic. I spent my morning travelling across London to go to the hospital for an appointment (spoiler, I’m still not done and have to go two more times at least), and then hurrying back to the office, before going out again for a meeting (which was a bit of a waste of time, but that’s a different story). Today has been very busy at work (can you start to see a pattern here?), as we’re trying to finalise two events, and time is pressing. I …

Day one of round two

Day one of the new workout is now gone, and I’m not sure whether it worked or not. Spoiler, it probably did and I’ll probably feel it tomorrow! Let me explain… As I mentioned yesterday, today I was doing a workout called Perfect Score, from the N+TC app. At first it looked complicated, but while doing it, I realised it was just the same exercises over an over again, for 30 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t boring at all! The workout asked for 4kg dumbbells, which as you know, are heavier than I normally use (double the weight, actually). Here are the exercises (note that all the photos below are screenshots from the N+TC app, I didn’t take them, I’m just sharing them for illustration purposes!): Deadlift with alternating rows. For this one, I had to stand with my legs a bit wide and a bit bent, bend down with my back straight, and then lift the weights sort of perpendicular to my back. Right, left, and up again. Walk out press up …

New workout plan ahead

Tomorrow, I’m starting the new Nike Training Club (N+TC) programme, which will run for another month, as the one I was doing up until now is over. This time around, I decided to up the stakes a bit more. I chose an intermediate level, and hope for the best. My goal is to get strong, and I also added some runs to it, to mix it up even more. This is what the app came with for the first week: At first glance, all workouts seem easy enough, or at least short, but when we check them individually, they are actually quite hardcore. On the first day, they ask to use 4-6kg dumbbells, which is heavier than I’ve ever used. I did use one 4kg dumbbell at some point, instead of a kettle ball, and it was exhausting, so we’ll see how it all works out. I’ve been watching Arrow lately. I’m on season two at the moment, and it always amazes me the way the guy trains. Exhibit #1 below. Now, a few points. …

Over 600 muscles in the human body

Today it was a rest day from my training programme, and I couldn’t be happier about it. When the alarm went off this morning (the first alarm, that is), my first instinct, as usual, was to turn over and slide the app button to stop it. I don’t snooze my alarms, I set a few at different times. This morning, as any other morning, I turned around and when I swung my arm to pick the phone from the floor, a piercing pain shot through my chest and arm. I was sore from Monday’s workout. Very sore. Struggling, I managed to stop the alarm and carefully rolled back on my back again, facing the ceiling, what I could only muster what sounded like uuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh or something like that. Mentally, I went over every single muscle in my body to check the damage and let me tell you, it was brutal. As I mentioned earlier this week, I’m following a Nike Training Club program (NTC), and on Monday the workout was called body flexor. It had …
