Argentina, part III

I left my story about my trips in Argentina a bit halfway… Sorry about that! I was too busy doing things than blogging about them! In any case, here I am again. The trek around Estancia Cristina was incredible. I’ve never walked as much as these past weeks, but I have definitely discovered a love for walking around in the wild. With scenery like this, you’ve got to love the outdoors: Upsala Glacier As you can imagine, I don’t get to see this in London! We walked for many hours, and had lunch at a viewpoint on top of a hill. We were really tired and our clothes were full of burr seeds! It was quite painful to try to get them off! That was my last day in El Calafate, and it was worth it every second of it. The next day, I didn’t want to leave, even though I was finally going to see my friend for a few days. Back in Buenos Aires, I had a great time as well with my …

Argentina, part II

I’m back to Buenos Aires now. I spent a few days in El Calafate and it blew my mind away. First, I did a trip to Perito Moreno glacier. I was picked up at my hotel at 7am, which meant I had to get up at a ridiculously early time. I’m not sure of the hard, cold facts (no pun intended), but it’s one of the few glaciers in the world that not only hasn’t receded but actually keeps advancing. This glacier is wide, not sure how much, but what amazed me was the fact that it was about 60 metres high above water and about 120 metres below the water! Standing on the shore next to it really gave you a feeling of humility. We were tiny compared to it. We walked for a few minutes through the forest and got to the mini trekking starting point. There, we had our cranpons fitted and proceeded to the ice. At first it was scary. My knees were halfway between jelly and rock. It felt alien …

Argentina, part I

I am in Ushuaia, Argentina. I am loving it here! I arrived on Monday, after 2 hours delay… The plane’s nose wheel got stuck in a 90 degrees position, so we couldn’t take off. They gave us another plane and we left. Now, not sure if you’ve ever travelled to Ushuaia, but basically, the runway is like a mini version of a real one. It’s on a small strip of land, and it pretty much starts and ends in water. I got in safe though (phew!) Yesterday, or Monday, I had a boat trip booked on the Beagle Channel. It was nice and fun. I got on well with the captain and the crew, and they even shared their mate with me! I got an Argentine flag as a souvenir at the end of it: I have now to take a picture of it, somewhere in the world, and send it to them. Sounds fun! Today, I had a trekking and canoeing booked. It was a full day trip and it was so much fun! …

down the memory lane

Today it was quite good at work. The team are finally coming to me to ask me questions, and I felt a bit more like I belonged in there. This has been a hectic week. I have been doing so many things, been so busy… Luckily it’s over now and I’m officially on holidays!! It’s funny how time passes by… I was thinking earlier, I had wanted to go to Argentina last Christmas, and couldn’t afford it. Then, I booked the flights in March. I was in my previous flat, and my card was blocked because my bank thought it had been stolen! I had to spend 40 minutes trying to get it to work again. I changed my bank, and my flat. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great they picked the strange online shopping, but I still think they should have tried contacting me or something before blocking my card and forcing me to answer a lot of questions on the phone, and keep me on hold for nearly 15 minutes! I …
