Running is almost here

It’s only a couple of days until the 5k Race for Life in Battersea, and I couldn’t be any less ready. If I remember correctly (and I think I do, but don’t quote me on it), the last time I went for a run was before my snowboarding trip back in March. Even then, I think it had been a few days before then (maybe a week?). Now, it’s June and I’ve become a couch potato once again. Dangit! Every time I think back to the half marathon, I think it was both an achievement and my doom. For some reason, I think it put me off running for a while. I know that was over a year ago, but I know running has never been the same since then. For a while, I was too tired or over-run to get back on the treadmill, and after, I don’t know, it’s been injuries and stuff. I haven’t found my mojo yet. When I signed up for this run, I barely thought about it. I’ve taken …

Over 44600 steps in three days

Remind me to not do a weekend like this one ever again… At least not if I want to rest and be able to feel my legs. This weekend has been mental. I have the feeling Friday was years ago, not just a couple of days earlier. My shifts at the charity house were very quiet, which I’m thankful for. No fires, no burglaries, and no hospital emergencies of any kind. On Friday, I did my workout (I brought my dumbbells to the house, which sounds a bit stupid, but hey, I needed them), and it was brutal. It was, simply put, hardcore. There was one circuit, to be done four times (if I remember well) and it included burpees, and wall sits, and plank rows, and many other painful exercises… for 45 minutes. On Saturday morning, I left the house at 10.30am or so, and went to have a walk. I was meeting Sean for lunch at 1pm, so I had plenty of time. I walked by the river to London Bridge, and then …

Day off

This is no way to enjoy a day off… I’ve been moving around more than on a normal day! Today I have been off work, because I wanted to run some errands, but I think it might have been a bad idea. I’m happy it was a rest day yesterday, because I’m struggling today. After work, I went to Oummou’s flat to have dinner and watch The Great British Sewing Bee. She hadn’t watched the first episode, so we did a catch up and watched it first. It was difficult to hide my excitement and to try to not give away any details of what was about to happen. After, we watched the second episode. It was like a Sewing Bee marathon! Last year, I got obsessed with the neckties. This year so far, I’m in love with the waistcoats. The contestants had to make one for children, and they were all super cute. I was very happy to see my favourite contestants were getting ahead, and that the one I didn’t really like left …

Smugness galore

I feel quite accomplished today, even if I am extremely tired. It feels like I’ve been doing a lot of things in the past few days, socially and at work (even if I don’t have much to show for it for the latter – research stage, nothing finished yet!) On Friday, we went out to one of my favourite bars in London, The Maple Leaf. It’s really nothing to write home about, but I love it. Outside, it looks like your regular traditional English pub, only with Canadian flags. When you step in, it still is like a traditional sports pub, only it has been decorated with Canadian-related stuff, from hockey sticks to flags. Yes, one of my favourite bars is a sports bar! There’s a picture of a moose and they have what I believe to be a real taxidermied bear, named Charlotte, by the way. Behind the bar, there’s a moose head hanging from the wall which is permanently covered in caps. On the TVs there’s always some sort of sports being played, …
