Trevligt att träffas

You know me, I’m always embarking on crazy adventures and challenges, and many times I just think why not? This time, I’ve decided I want to learn Swedish. Yup, that’s right, Swedish, even though I know it’s not a widely spoken language, and it’s probably not going to open a million doors for me. I’ve wanted to try since I visited Stockholm years ago with my friend Aissa. I remember walking around the city and trying to understand the words on the different signs. Not only reading the English translations, but actually trying to understand how the language is constructed (for example, figuring out that gata meant street after seeing it as a suffix in a lot of signs). I only managed a few words, of course, and everyone speaks English over there (dom pratar engelska dår), but it made me feel like I do have a knack for languages! As part of an epic quest to live my life the best I can (more on that soon), I’ve decided to learn more languages. Recently, …

Never work a day in your life

Back to reality. Unfortunately, my holidays are over. I’ve been away for about ten days, and it still feels too short. I really don’t want to go back to work tomorrow. And isn’t that telling? I mean, it’s pretty commonplace that people don’t like waking up at dawn and commuting for an hour, to be sat at a desk for eight (plus) hours everyday, Monday to Friday, and repeat over and over again. Yes, I get that, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many memes about hating Mondays, right? But still, I can’t help but think there’s more to life than that. My job in itself isn’t that bad. I work in marketing, so I get to do some cool stuff from time to time (all we do in marketing is colouring and drawing, yeah, right, heard it before), but it feels so stiff and uninspiring at the moment. It doesn’t help that the industry is not the sexiest industry in the world, and that the product isn’t tangible. Every Monday, I wake up and I …

Update on progress

There’s nothing like a long weekend to make you feel great, and there’s nothing like a long weekend in which the day you have off is a Monday. If I’m completely honest with all of you, I haven’t done that much this weekend. At first I thought I would have time to make another dent at my stuff, but I spent Saturday running errands. On Sunday I had photos taken, thanks to a voucher I bought a while ago, and today, well, I haven’t done much either. That’s the beauty of weekends, isn’t it? I am doing this crazy overhaul of my life at the moment, getting rid of everything that seems to be weighing me down. Unfortunately, there are some aspects I’m stuck with for the foreseeable future, but hey, baby steps. Rome wasn’t conquered in a day, and all that. So anyway, as you know, I’m getting rid of a lot of my stuff, to create space for myself, as well as calmness and wellness or whatever. Anything sending negative vibes my way …

I can be your Superman… woman… whatever!

Well, it seems I’m a certified first aider now. During three days, I attended a course by St. John’s Ambulance in London to learn how to perform first aid and it’s been interesting. On Monday, we were asked how confident we felt we could save someone’s life with what we knew about first aid, how confident we were in our skills, and of course, we all said zero or so. No confidence at all. Please, don’t get a paper cut in my presence, because surely you’re not going to survive it. We were told by the end of the course we would feel like wearing our underwear over our trousers, superhero style. For three days, we’ve been taking notes, looking at pictures and learning what the role of a first aider is. This was a course aimed at a work environment, but we can use our skills outside the workplace, if we choose to do so. We were 13 attendees, and initially we were feeling a bit quiet, shy, not really knowing what was going …
