A new year, a new hope…

They say new year, new… lots of things, right? Well, in my case it’s going to be more of the same with maybe some improvement. It’s been about two months since the last time I published anything, and with some sort of good reason, I guess. I believe the last post was about Supergirl, which is not completely bad, to be honest. However, I wasn’t feeling very super… at all. The main problem I’ve had, health (or lack thereof) has had me a bit down lately. First, I still have the knee injury that I don’t seem to shake off, and it’s bothering me a lot. I haven’t run since the Nike 10k run back in May (and cause of injury) and I feel that it’s affecting my overall mood. I decided to ride it out and rest and not do anything too bad on the knee/legs and so I didn’t work out for a while. When I started back again, just after one session (and a fit test at that!), my knee was on …

Adventures in the city

You know how I always turn everything into a quest, right? I think I’ve mentioned it before. Once thing is sure, my life doesn’t get too boring. Whenever I start getting bored, it’s like subconsciously my mind flips a switch and then I end up doing something very random and weird. And I stop being bored (many times, I also start being tired). On Monday I went to the house for the night and decided it was a good day to start a new workout plan. Since I didn’t have any weights or machines with me (I don’t normally carry those around), I decided Freeletics was the way to go. If you haven’t heard about it yet, it’s basically a series of workouts (with wonderful Greek gods’ names!) which are designed to be done with no equipment, and just your body. Also, it seems they’re designed to be performed in 2×2 metres, so there’s definitely no excuse. What this means in reality is a lot of high intensity, very taxing types of exercises (think burpees, …

Just keep swimming

There’s nothing like having a day off (or two) when everyone else is working. Seriously, you should try it. During the whole month of August, I’ve decided short weeks are the way to go. Now, I don’t mind working on Fridays so much, after all, the weekend is just around the corner, but I do hate Mondays. Every week is a short week this month, and I couldn’t be enjoying it more. Last night I went to the Ronald McDonald House which meant it was a late night and an early morning. At 6am, I couldn’t sleep anymore (trust me, I tried) and so I got up and had breakfast, prosciutto and boiled potatoes. I left the house at 7.30am, not really knowing what to do at such an early hour. I made a pit-stop at Nero to buy a coffee (they don’t ask my name, so they don’t get it wrong… Totally works for me!) and then I got on the train to Lewisham. When I arrived, it was still way too early so …

Food and workouts

It’s been a week of eating healthy, and I’m not really seeing what the big deal is so far. Sure, it involves a lot of planning (and I mean a lot) but… I don’t know. Maybe I’m not doing it right, or maybe I wasn’t doing it that bad before Whole30. I am finding some things more difficult than others, sure, like not being able to have a piece of toast, but I’m not getting any problems with the sugar dragon (wasn’t addicted to sugar before anyway), or having any major cold turkey situations (hmmm, turkey…). It’s true that lately I’m only seeing Papa John’s ads, which is quite annoying (especially when they have offers going on), and that even the chicken burger from that ad in which the kid “prepares” the perfect burger for his dad (because he’s the best) looks quite appealing, but meh. Whatever. So far, I’m not even craving Spanish omelette. It’s only been eight days for me, to be honest, and maybe everything is going to come at the same …
